A Better Deal For Ithaca Workers.

Ever been fired for no reason, or without a chance to fix the issue? Been laid off when business seems to be doing just fine? Lost your job based on data from invasive surveillance in your workplace?

At-will employment is the problem.

“At-will employment corrodes enforcement of workers’ labor, employment, and civil rights.”

KATE ANDRIAS AND ALEXANDER HERTEL-FERNANDEZ, ENDING AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT: A GUIDE FOR JUST CAUSE REFORM

The Answer

Just Cause Employment.

Under just cause rules, your employer has to have a good reason to discharge you and follow a fair and transparent process in doing so. Just cause means employers, not just workers, are held accountable. It gives workers the security we deserve in our workplace and encourages employers to focus on developing, rather than replacing, workers.

To Meet this Moment

We Need to Build A Working Class Movement

In solidarity there is strength, and when we work together, we can move mountains. We are one working class.

At-will employment affects the entire working class, from doctors and lawyers to grocery store clerks and graduate students.

Only through working together can we create the change we desperately need.

Supported by the Ithaca Community

Just Cause Employment is supported by a wide coalition of Ithaca community organizations, from small businesses to non-profits, we're building a strong movement to protect Ithaca workers.
